About the program

 

The Minbani Bebe Kinship Program is an Aboriginal Carer Services program funded by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Larrakia Nation delivers three streams of this program: Family Finding, assessing carers and supporting carers. 

Minbani Bebe undertakes family finding to identify family and community members who want to care for and or connect Aboriginal children who have been placed in the out-of-home care system under DCF.  Minbani Bebe supports Aboriginal kinship and other Aboriginal foster carers by completing carer assessments and facilitating carer support activities. Minbani Bebe are seeking a Kinship Support worker to lead the family finding aspect of our program, and to work in close collaboration with two other Kinship Support Workers in the Minbani Bebe team.  Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Family finding and family tree mapping to identify suitable family members for connection and care
  • Hosting family meetings to support families in decision making around the care of children
  • Engaging with key stakeholders, including other Larrakia Nation teams, Aboriginal Carer Services and DCF teams. 
  • Contributing to carer assessment work
  • Provide carer support & activities

Conditions of employment covered by the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2018. Salary range starting at $38.68 per hour. Option to salary package a maximum of $15,899 from your gross salary each year; 5 weeks pro rata annual leave per year; and a 21-hour week. Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Family Finding activities
  • Collaborate with the team in carer assessment activities. 
  • Maintain case notes and record client contacts and work activities. 
  • Working collaboratively in partnership with DCF. 
  • Participate in regular team meetings and meetings with supervisor.
  • Practice privacy and confidentiality.
  • Provide information and support to carers, in person and over the phone about the program and services.  
  • Help promote the program in community. 
  • Administrative skills, working knowledge of Microsoft word, outlook, and excel.  
  • With support of manager, organise group and or community activities to bring foster and kinship carers together.  
  • Although this is a part time role, be able to work flexible hours at times for events, or family meetings.  
  • Maintain respect for family community and culture.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Identify as Indigenous 
  • Relevant experience in family support work, social work or community work  
  • A relevant Certificate IV in Community Services, or Diploma in related discipline, with at least five years’ work experience in a similar role. 
  • Resilience to work with vulnerable families and confidence to facilitate family meetings 
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Have good written skills and have experience in writing case notes, assessments and reports
  • NT Drivers Licence (C Class)

It would be considered an advantage if applicants also possess:

  • Identify as Larrakia
